Pakistan is planning to bring private-sector companies from the textile and Islamic banking sectors to participate in the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2027, aiming to strengthen trade relations and explore new business opportunities between Pakistan and Malaysia.
Pakistan High Commission Trade and Investment Counsellor Tahira Javed stated that textiles, ready-made garments, Islamic banking, and other emerging halal industry segments offer promising opportunities for businesses in both countries. She explained that Pakistan’s participation in MIHAS 2026 focused on promoting halal meat, rice, value-added agricultural products, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), pink salt, and honey, alongside textiles and Islamic banking.
Javed noted that Pakistan intends to encourage private-sector companies from these industries to participate in MIHAS 2027, providing them with opportunities to showcase their products, establish business connections, and explore potential partnerships in the Malaysian market.
Alongside its efforts to expand cooperation in the halal industry, Pakistan is also engaging with Malaysian companies to strengthen bilateral trade in tropical fruits and fresh produce. Javed highlighted the potential for Pakistani citrus fruits and mangoes in the Malaysian market, while encouraging the import of Malaysian tropical fruits, including durian and coconut, into Pakistan.
She explained that Pakistani mangoes, widely known as the country’s “King of Fruits,” and citrus products have considerable export potential in Malaysia. Pakistan is also seeking to facilitate greater cooperation with Malaysian companies in the fresh produce sector. Previous engagements, including participation by Malaysian companies in the FoodAgro Exhibition, have provided opportunities to discuss the export of tropical fruits from Malaysia to Pakistan.
Javed also invited Malaysian companies to participate in the 4th International Food and Agriculture Exhibition (FoodAg 2026), scheduled to take place from November 23 to 26, 2026, at the Expo Centre Karachi, Pakistan. The exhibition will provide a platform for businesses to explore opportunities in food, agriculture, and related industries.
Meanwhile, MIHAS 2026 continued to serve as an important platform for Pakistan to showcase its halal industry, promote exports, and support economic growth through international trade. Pakistan’s participation included representatives from both the public and private sectors, with several government institutions involved in promoting the country’s commercial interests.
The participating institutions included the Pakistan High Commission, the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), the National Agri-trade and Food Safety Authority (NAFSA), and the Director General of the Plant Protection Department. According to Javed, several official-level and government-to-government (G2G) engagements between Pakistan and Malaysia also took place during MIHAS 2026.
Pakistan’s planned participation in MIHAS 2027 reflects its broader efforts to expand halal industry exports, strengthen cooperation in Islamic banking and textiles, and develop new trade and investment opportunities with Malaysia.
