Community Bank Bangladesh PLC has launched “Community Islamic,” a new banking initiative offering Shariah-compliant financial services alongside its conventional banking operations. The initiative aims to expand customer choice and make Islamic banking services accessible to a wider segment of customers, with adherence to Islamic principles at the core of its operations.
The initiative was formally inaugurated on 26 October 2026 by Md Ali Hossain Fakir, BPM, Inspector General of Police and Chairman of Community Bank Bangladesh. The inauguration ceremony took place at the bank’s Chawkbazar branch, located at Shahjahan Imam Tower in Dhaka, according to a press release. The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by discussions on the role of Islamic banking in promoting ethical financial practices, strengthening customer confidence and contributing to social well-being.
Mohammed Emtiaz Uddin, Managing Director of Community Bank Bangladesh, outlined the institution’s vision for Community Islamic and its plans to serve a broader customer base through Islamic banking services. He emphasised that Shariah compliance, transparency and responsible customer service would be essential to developing the initiative into a trusted banking service.
Mohammad Anisur Rahman, Director of the Islamic Banking Regulations and Policy Department at Bangladesh Bank, highlighted the importance of sound banking practices and compliance with Shariah principles in building public confidence in Islamic financial services. He also emphasised the wider benefits of transparent and responsible financial dealings for customers and society.
Mufti Abdullah Masum, Chairman of the Shariah Supervisory Committee of Community Islamic, discussed the ethical foundations of Islamic banking, highlighting honesty, trustworthiness and fairness in financial transactions. Other bank officials and representatives of Bangladesh Police also emphasised the importance of ethical financial services, fair customer dealings and responsible banking practices in strengthening public trust and supporting community welfare.
During the ceremony, the chief guest stressed that customer confidence must be built through integrity, honesty and consistent adherence to Shariah principles. He expressed his expectation that Community Islamic would uphold these values while contributing to the financial well-being of the community.
The launch of Community Islamic reflects Community Bank Bangladesh’s efforts to broaden its banking services by incorporating Shariah-based financial solutions alongside its conventional offerings. The initiative also highlights the continuing development of Islamic banking in Bangladesh, where financial institutions are seeking to respond to customers’ demand for ethical, transparent and Shariah-compliant financial services.
