The conference titled “Islamic Banking in Libya: Between Reality and Areas for Development” began today, Sunday, in Tripoli under the patronage of the Libyan Authority for Scientific Research. The event will run for two days and brings together academics, bankers, financial experts, and legislators from across the country.
Speakers at the opening session highlighted the importance of this specialized conference in shaping Libya’s future economic and financial policies. They stressed the need for the Authority to continue supporting research that contributes to strengthening economic development and improving the performance of the national financial system.
The conference aims to evaluate the current banking system and related legislation, encourage knowledge exchange among participants, and examine the reality of Islamic banking in Libya. Discussions will explore the challenges facing the sector, the opportunities for growth, and the feasibility of transitioning to a fully Islamic banking model.
Another key focus of the event is the role of innovation and financial technology (FinTech) in improving the efficiency and competitiveness of Islamic banking services. Participants are studying how modern digital tools and solutions can support economic growth and help Libya align with international standards within the Islamic finance industry.
