Takaful Gambia Limited has paid an insurance claim of US$170,000 to Alport Banjul as compensation for a reach stacker machine that accidentally plunged into the sea. The settlement reflects the company’s commitment to ethical insurance solutions and strong customer support.
Alport Banjul operates the Port of Banjul under a 30-year PPP agreement with the Turkish Albayrak Group. Since early 2025, the company has overseen port services, infrastructure and logistics management in The Gambia.
The cheque presentation was held at the Alport headquarters in Banjul, attended by senior executives from both organisations. Speaking at the ceremony, Takaful Gambia CEO Ndenneh Senghore described the occasion as an important milestone for Alport, yet a routine responsibility for Takaful Gambia, noting the company’s dedication to efficient and timely claims handling. He stated that the sizeable settlement reflects Takaful’s capacity and readiness to honour genuine claims.
Senghore explained that the insured risk had been fully reinsured, allowing the company to process and settle the claim smoothly. He also extended appreciation to their reinsurers and co-insurers, including Prime Insurance, for supporting the settlement process.
The CEO highlighted that Takaful Gambia followed a professional assessment procedure. After the incident, their team conducted inspections and communicated findings to reinsurers, ensuring accuracy and transparency. Alport, he emphasised, remained updated throughout all stages of the process.
He added that this is not the first claim settled for Alport Banjul, and more claims are currently being processed, assuring the client of reliable coverage and long-term cooperation. Senghore also noted that Takaful Gambia stands out as the only insurer in the country offering profit-sharing to its customers.
Alport Banjul Director, Cem Ozturk, praised Takaful Gambia for their professional and efficient service delivery. He confirmed that Alport had lodged multiple claims in the past and all were resolved without complications.
Ozturk explained that the damaged reach stacker, valued at US$170,000, was fully insured and the settlement process was smooth and transparent. He reaffirmed the company’s strong partnership with Takaful Gambia and expressed gratitude to its management and staff.
