Local halal food manufacturers play a crucial role in supporting the domestic market while positioning Malaysia as a key gateway to the global halal industry.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the national halal food sector has significant growth potential, with the global halal market currently valued at more than RM16.02 trillion and expected to reach RM22.88 trillion by 2030.
He said QL Innofood Park would play a pivotal role in strengthening Malaysia’s position in the halal industry, noting that halal products are not only for Muslims but for consumers of all religions. QL Resources Berhad, he added, is a company that fully complies with halal certification standards.
Zahid said the establishment of QL Innofood Park would contribute to economic growth and create employment opportunities. He was speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the project, which was also attended by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and QL Resources Berhad Executive Chairman Dr Chia Song Kun.
As Chairman of the National Halal Council, Zahid said both the federal and state governments would continue to support companies involved in developing the country’s halal industry. He added that maintaining a business-friendly environment is essential, as such initiatives generate returns through corporate taxes while creating job opportunities.
Meanwhile, Saarani said the groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of a large-scale industrial investment to be implemented in phases over the long term. He said the development of QL Innofood Park is planned over approximately 10 years, with an estimated investment of RM1.2 billion.
Saarani added that the project reflects strong investor confidence in the stability of state policies, clarity of planning, and the Perak state government’s ability to provide a reliable investment environment. More importantly, he said, the development would strengthen the economic structure of Bagan Datuk in a more organised and sustainable manner.
