The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Kuwait, in partnership with the American Business Council in Kuwait (AmCham Kuwait), has launched a private sector dialogue focused on innovative financing mechanisms to support Kuwait’s economic diversification and long-term development objectives under Kuwait Vision 2035.
The introductory session, titled “Corporate Thematic Bonds, Sukuk and Sustainability-Linked Financing,” brought together business leaders and stakeholders to explore how sustainable financing solutions can enhance competitiveness, attract long-term investments, and contribute to the country’s economic transformation goals.
During the session, UNDP highlighted its global experience in supporting innovative financial instruments, including thematic bonds, sukuk, and sustainability-linked financing. These mechanisms have helped mobilize more than US$30 billion across over 40 countries, enabling governments, financial institutions, and businesses to align investments with sustainable development priorities.
The event also provided a platform for participants to discuss emerging trends in sustainable finance and the increasing role of innovative financing tools in building resilient businesses, strengthening capital markets, and encouraging long-term economic growth.
UNDP Resident Representative in Kuwait, Emma Morley, emphasized that a stronger private sector contributes to greater innovation, improved employment opportunities, and a more resilient economy. She highlighted that preparing businesses for future challenges is an important investment in Kuwait’s sustainable development.
Dr. Arezou Harraf, Chair of the Board of Directors of AmCham Kuwait, noted that sustainable finance has become an essential part of the global financial ecosystem. She stated that introducing these financing concepts to Kuwait’s business community would encourage practical discussions on supporting sustainable growth and advancing the country’s economic transformation agenda.
The initiative is part of a broader collaboration between UNDP Kuwait and AmCham Kuwait to promote sustainable investment, mobilize private sector capital, strengthen domestic capital markets, and support Kuwait’s economic diversification strategy in line with Kuwait Vision 2035. Through this partnership, both organizations aim to increase awareness of innovative financing solutions and encourage the development of a more sustainable and resilient financial ecosystem.
