Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has launched MyCoverageOKU, a digital platform designed to improve access to insurance and takaful information for persons with disabilities. The initiative aims to promote financial inclusion by helping individuals, their families, and caregivers explore available coverage options and make informed decisions about financial protection according to their needs.
The platform was developed through a collaboration between Bank Negara Malaysia, the Financial Education Network, and industry participants. It serves as a centralized information resource where users can access details about relevant insurance and takaful products, review eligibility requirements, and obtain contact information for providers. However, eligibility, coverage benefits, and policy conditions remain subject to the individual terms and conditions established by each insurance and takaful provider.
MyCoverageOKU has been designed in accordance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to make the platform easier to navigate for people with different accessibility needs. Its features include adjustable text sizes, high-contrast display settings, and simplified navigation, helping users access essential financial information through a more inclusive digital experience.
The platform also includes an Insurance and Takaful Product List, enabling users to explore available coverage options, understand product benefits, and review eligibility criteria. By bringing relevant information together in one place, MyCoverageOKU seeks to simplify the process of researching insurance and takaful products and help consumers identify options that may be appropriate for their individual circumstances.
Speaking at the Selangor Financial Literacy Carnival 2026 in Shah Alam, Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour emphasized the importance of developing financial services around consumers’ needs. He highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence to improve the delivery of financial information, identify unusual activities, and provide timely reminders that support better financial decision-making.
The governor also stressed that technology should complement rather than replace human judgment. Consumers should be able to understand the implications of their financial choices, while financial institutions must prioritize personal data protection and ensure that appropriate assistance remains available. These principles are particularly important as digital platforms become increasingly integrated into financial services.
The launch of MyCoverageOKU reflects Malaysia’s continued efforts to strengthen financial literacy, improve digital accessibility, and expand access to financial protection. By making insurance and takaful information easier to obtain, the initiative aims to help persons with disabilities participate more confidently in the financial system. It also highlights the growing importance of accessible digital solutions in building a more inclusive insurance and takaful industry.
Overall, MyCoverageOKU represents a step toward making financial information more accessible and consumer-focused in Malaysia. As the country’s financial sector continues to embrace digital innovation, initiatives of this kind can help reduce information barriers and support more inclusive access to insurance and takaful services.
