CIMB has launched a new salary account designed to provide salaried customers with complimentary Takaful protection of up to RM200,000. The account is introduced under the bank’s CIMB@Work programme, while the protection coverage is provided by Sun Life Malaysia Takaful Berhad.
The CIMB Salary Account offers coverage for 36 critical illnesses, including cancer, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, and Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, the plan also includes protection for death and total permanent disability.
Customers can enjoy the protection without the need for medical examinations or health declarations. However, the coverage remains subject to exclusions related to pre-existing medical conditions and other policy terms.
To be eligible for the complimentary protection, customers must be between 18 and 69 years old, have their salary credited into the account, and maintain a minimum monthly average balance of RM2,500.
Haniz Nazlan, Chief Executive Officer of Group Consumer Banking at CIMB, said the bank aims to make financial protection easier and more accessible by integrating Takaful coverage directly into salary accounts.
CIMB noted that many Malaysians are still underinsured against serious illnesses, death, and financial emergencies. Through this initiative, the bank hopes to strengthen financial security for working individuals and their families.
Eligible CIMB@Work customers will also continue to receive additional banking benefits, including lower financing rates and easier qualification requirements for selected products such as credit cards, personal financing, home financing, and Term Financing-i secured by ASB certificates.
As part of a promotional campaign running from May to July 2026, eligible customers who open the account will receive an additional year of complimentary critical illness coverage, effectively doubling the protection amount, subject to terms and conditions.
Customers will also have the option to purchase additional critical illness and death coverage of up to RM300,000 directly from Sun Life Malaysia Takaful Berhad. The online-only offer will be available from July to December 2026 without medical underwriting, although standard exclusions and conditions will still apply.
