HÀ NỘI — The Halal sector is becoming an increasingly important area of cooperation between Việt Nam and Türkiye, offering strong growth potential as both countries benefit from complementary strengths and rising global demand. While this field is still relatively new in bilateral relations, it has already attracted significant attention from both governments.
Türkiye, with its large Muslim population, serves as a major consumer market and a well-developed processing hub for Halal products. At the same time, Việt Nam is steadily strengthening its ability to supply Halal goods, particularly in processed foods, agricultural produce, beverages, tourism services, and logistics. This combination creates a mutually beneficial opportunity for both nations to expand trade and cooperation.
According to Yunus Ete, Chairman of the World Halal Summit Council, global demand for Halal products—including food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and tourism—has been growing rapidly. In recent years, Việt Nam and Türkiye have made notable progress in enhancing collaboration in this sector, paving the way for further development.
Türkiye’s strategic location, connecting Asia and Europe, makes it not only a strong trading partner but also a key gateway to wider international markets. This advantage positions Türkiye as an ideal destination for Vietnamese Halal exports and a bridge to markets in the Middle East and Southern Europe.
In response to increasing global demand, Việt Nam is focusing on developing a comprehensive Halal ecosystem as part of its long-term economic strategy. The government has introduced various programs to help businesses improve production capacity, meet quality standards, and obtain necessary certifications. At the same time, efforts are being made to strengthen cooperation with international organizations to facilitate access for Vietnamese products to global Muslim markets.
Türkiye is currently among Việt Nam’s leading trade partners in the Middle East, playing a crucial role as a gateway for exports to broader regional markets. Bilateral trade between the two countries reached nearly US$2.3 billion last year, with Việt Nam’s exports accounting for more than US$1.8 billion.
As key economic players in their respective regions, both Việt Nam and Türkiye possess strong complementarities and strategic advantages that link them to various global markets and multilateral organizations. With a shared commitment to strengthening their partnership, the two countries are well-positioned to expand cooperation further, particularly in the rapidly growing Halal sector.
